After the nationwide wars of liberation against the Spanish, the country gained its independence in 1816. Dictatorships and/or civil wars followed. Republic from 1862. Argentina is a federal state consisting of 22 provinces, the Federal District of Buenos Aires and the National Territory of Tierra del Fuego.

Cordoba ( 1858-1860 ), Buenos Aires ( 1858-1863 ) and Corrientes ( 1856-1880 ) used their own stamps at various times.
